Ski crossing program

Pre-expedition requirement: Arrival and Briefing
Welcome to the Arctic and the northernmost town Longyearbyen!
We recommend that you arrive one day prior to the expedition start so have a buffer day but also to experience this amazing town and surroundings.
Once you have arrived in Longyearbyen, we’ll take you to our expedition centre for briefing. We’ll go through the gear, safety and logistics ensuring every sled and ski is ready, checking up on the equipment list, ensure everyone is properly prepared, and make any necessary last-minute purchases. Finally, we pack the sleds and tomorrow your crossing adventure begins.
This journey takes you across vast glaciers, through remote wilderness, and into the heart of the high Arctic. Expect breathtaking landscapes, raw nature, and the thrill of true polar exploration.

Day 1 – Starting your journey with snowmobile to the East coast
In the morning we will pick-up from your hotel in Longyearbyen. We will start with a gear check and instructions for the 80 km snowmobile ride to Mohnbukta. Departure (two people per snowmobile).
On arrival in Mohnbukta, we’ll enjoy lunch with a stunning backdrop. The Arctic crisp air greets you as we unload the sleds. From here we'll take the first steps into the deep Arctic wilderness towards Tempelfjorden. The civilization has disappeared and has been replaced by endless silence and the crunch of snow under the skis.
The first experience is the ascent of Hayesbreen, a vast 18 km long glacier named after the American Arctic explorer Isaac Israel Hayes. We are surrounded by nothing but the rhythmic crunch of snow.
Tonight we will establish our first polar camp together at the edge of Hayesbreen glacier.

Day 2 – Into the wild
When you wake up in the most beautiful surroundings your breakfast and coffee will taste even better. We will then start the day by melting water followed by breaking camp and continuing our crossing up Hayesbreen.
As we ascend, we are surrounded by glaciers and towering nunataks—exposed mountain peaks rising through the ice. If visibility is clear, you’ll experience the true vastness of Svalbard here.
Tonight we will set our camp for the night near Panoramaberget, offering spectacular views.
Each night everyone will take turns on polar bear watch at night. For many, this quiet, solitary time under the midnight sun becomes one of the highlights of the journey.

Day 3 – Descending the glacier
After another unforgettable night under the midnight sun, you will wake up to the sound of silence. We step into our backcountry ski bindings and begin the long descent down the Von Post glacier which is one of Svalbard's most majestic and iconic glaciers.
The route here is beautiful, smooth and steady. Your pulk (sled) will glide effortlessly behind you as the horizon opens up revealing a jaw-dropping polar panorama.
Late in the afternoon we will sett up our camp near the confluence of the Marit and Von Post glaciers, surrounded by dramatic Arctic landscapes. Here, we share a warm meal surrounded by one of the most remote pristine wilderness.

Day 4 – Reaching the fjord
Today is the final stretch of an epic cross-country expedition down to Tempelfjorden. This is a unique opportunity to experience Svalbard from the sea — keep an eye out for seals and whales as we return to Longyearbyen. We'll enjoy our lunch before our scheduled pickup with snowmobile. The final kilometer run from Tempelfjorden to Longyearbyen will take you through some of Svalbard's history. From the historic trapper territory of Sassendalen to the wide-open icy snowmobile highways of Adventdalen. This concluding drive is a thrilling victory lap and will remind you of the contrast of the town and civilization after days of pure wilderness. Once back in town, we return the equipment, check into the hotel, and enjoy a well-earned shower.
Note: Accomodation, meals and transfer in Longyearbyen is not included from day 4 to 5.

Post expedition recommendation: Buffer day with rest & recovery
We recommend having 2 extra days / 1 night after return to Longyearbyen from the expedition. Flexible days to relax, unwind, and let the adventure sink in.
If the weather was challenging during the expedition, this day serves as a buffer for adjustments.
For those with energy left, we can help create an itinerary for staying in the northernmost town.
The next day it will then be time to say goodbye to the Arctic.
