Svalbard snowmobile expedition

No. You do not need previous experience driving a snowmobile.

You will drive your snowmobile yourself and will get an introduction to driving a snowmobile before going on the adventure.

If you will be two persons you can be a driver and passenger and share a snowmobile too and shift driving it.   

You need a driver’s licens to drive a snowmobile.

No, you need a valid driver’s licence which is required to drive a snowmobile on Svalbard. It is important that you have the driver’s licence in physical form as it will not be accepted as an online version.

If you do not wish to drive, shared driving arrangements may sometimes be possible – reach out to us. 

Dressing for Arctic requires a strict three-layer system combined with high-quality insulation for breaks. The key is regulating your temperature to prevent sweating and freezing.

We recommend packing and wearing the following layers:

• Base layer (For moisture)
  100% merino wool underwear (top and buttom). Avoid cotton completely, as it retains moisture and cools you down.
• Mid Layer (weather protection)
  A breatable fleece or wool jacket or a lightweight active-insulation jacket to trap heat while moving.  
• Outer Layer (Weather protection)
  Wind- and waterproof hard shell jacket and pants (e-g- goretex) with good ventilation zippers to shield you from the harsh Arctic wind. 
• Reinforcement Layer  
  A thick down jacket and pants to put on when you are in camp. 
• Accessories 
  Two pairs of gloves (lightweight, heavy/windproof), a wool beanie (Balaclava), goggles, sunglasses, and 100% wool socks. 

By packing specialized layers, you can easily adapt to Svalbard’s rapidly changing weather and stay comfortable throughout the day.

You need an average fitness level. You should be comfortable in cold environments. 

We will assess the weather conditions on the departure day as weather forecasts on Svalbard can change from hour to hour.

If the guide decides to cancel the tour we will contact you as soon as we have made the decision and offer you a date change or full refund. We therefore recommend you to have some flexibility in your program and place the expedition in the beginning of your stay.

Safety is our top priority and the guide will be bringing polar bear protection on the tour.

Due to protection laws, no tour is allowed to be focussed on finding and seeing polar bears. If spotted you must keep your distance for safety reasons. The legal distance is 300 metres in summer and 500 metres in winter. 

Polar Bear Watch is an essential safety measure during all expeditions in Svalbard. Given the presence of polar bears in the region, your guide will monitor the surroundings for any bear activity. 

Everyone will take turns on polar bear watch at night. For many, this quiet, solitary time under the midnight sun becomes one of the highlights of the journey. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the Arctic wilderness and reflect on life in a way that few people ever experience.

If a polar bear is sighted, the group will be immediately instructed to take safety precautions. Polar bear protection is vital, and guides are trained in bear safety and using deterrents like flare guns and rifles.

All our guides are professionals with extensive experience in Arctic terrain and safety.

Every guide has completed specialized Arctic safety training, such as the ANG (Arctic Nature Guide), Svalbard Guide Training (SGO) program or equivalent guide certifications. 

All guides are fully certified in firearms handling due to polar bears and Arctic wildlife safety regulations. 

Our team also have avalanche safety training, glacier rescue skills and wilderness first-aid training.
