The midnight ski touring program

Meeting the guide.
The Arctic awakening
Your Arctic adventure begins when you meet the guide at your accommodation in Longyearbyen. The guide will prepare you for an unforgettable evening in the mountains with a safety briefing and equipment check. We head out to the mountains to start the ascent. Our guide will decide the mountain summit based on safety and best snow conditions.

The golden hour
summit panorama view
Reaching a mountain ridge or summit, we'll take time to slow down and enjoy the moment. You will feel the true magic of the Arctic. We enjoy a break with a warm drink and a small snack. Standing above the landscape in the night, while the light is as bright as if it was day, is a truely unique experience.

Skiing down
under endless daylight
The descent is where the backcountry ski adventure truly comes alive. We create new ski-lines through the Arctic landscape. For every turn, the changing light creates new views and unforgettable memories. One of the few evening experiences in Longyearbyen is coming to an end and we will drive you back to your accommodation.

- Safety first
We continuously monitor avalanche risks and weather patterns to pick the safetest terrain for the day - The best snow
We track wind and temperatures to find where the best powder is deepest and the snow quality is highest. - Maximum fun for everyone
We tailor each tour and route to the group’s energy levels and skills, ensuring a rewarding and memorable day for all.

Dressing for Arctic ski touring requires a strict three-layer system combined with high-quality insulation for breaks. The key is regulating your temperature to prevent sweating during the ascent and freezing during the descent.
We recommend oacking and wearing the following layers:
- Base layer (For moisture)
100% merino wool underwear (top and buttom). Avoid cotton completely, as it retains moisture and cools you down. - Mid Layer (weather protection)
A breatable fleece or wool jacket or a lightweight active-insulation jacket to trap heat while moving. - Outer Layer (Weather protection)
Wind- and waterproof hard shell jacket and pants (e-g- goretex) with good ventilation zippers to shield you from the harsh Arctic wind. - Reinforcement Layer (for breaks)
A thick down jacket to put on immediately when stopping. You can get lightweight versions. - Accessories
Two pairs of gloves (lightweight for touring, heavy/windproof for downhills), a wool beanie (Balaclave), ski googles, sunglasses, and 100% wool socks.
By packing specialized layers, you can easily adapt to Svalbard’s rapidly changing weather and stay comfortable throughout the day.
